How can I effectively address the Climate and Biodiversity Crisis?

The Climate and Biodiversity Crisis could be the greatest challenge humanity ever faces. Timothy Morton described it as a hyper object as it affects everything on the planet and over time scales far longer than any human life. So, how can we possibly feel like we can do anything meaningful about it?

Well, our feelings are not reality, they are how we feel about the world we see and, as just one person: you only see a tiny part of it.

However, collectively we have understood a huge amount about what is happening and how to address it effectively.

How to do it

Understand the problem

  • This can help you know why what you are doing is making a difference:

    • Understand the size of it.

    • Understand a nature of it.

Break down the challenge and the actions to address it:

Challenge 1: Biodiversity ðŸŒ³:

  • We are going through the 6th mass extinction and it's happening fast: we need to reverse it.

  • Solution:

    • Rebuild biodiversity

  • How and where:

    • Our gardens through making them more friendly for nature

    • Our communities through community groups and programs

    • Around the world through high impact charities

Challenge 2: Climate Adaptation 💪:

  • Solution:

    • Prepare for a different future

      • Heatwaves

      • Power cuts

      • Food shortages

  • How and where:

    • Food production

    • Community resilience: join or start local community groups

    • Heating in winter and cooling in summer

Challenge 3: Carbon Reduction (energy) 🔥:

  • Solution:

    • Reduce your footprint and help other people and industries do the same

  • How and where:

    • Reduce your footprint

    • Use charities who research the most effective solutions to have the greatest impact and donate, promote or raise money for them.
